Point-of-Sale Credit Card Processing with FoxPro and Cold Fusion

Topic:
Integration of old, but fully functional, DOS programs with newer web-based technologies can present undaunting problems for small businesses. This presentation demonstrates how these problems were addressed at a local business where a heritage point-of-sale system, written in FoxPro for DOS, was integrated with a Cold Fusion 5 backend for purposes of doing online credit card processing using to communicate with a credit card processing gateway via a DSL connection. Over a 100 thousand transactions have been processed with this system since it went into production a couple of years ago. This presentation also shows how an externally hosted web-site with a MySQL backend is updated on a daily basis using Visual FoxPro.

Bio:
Arden has been producing home-grown application in FoxPro and/or Cold Fusion for the past 20 years beginning in the days when FoxPro for DOS and MS-DOS was King.

Recently he has been using Cold Fusion 5 through 8 to build data-maintenance and reporting applications that run on both government and private company Intranets using Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL and Access backends.

Concurrent with the above, he has been using Visual FoxPro and its capable report generator to build Data Analysis and Reporting client server applications using the same database backends used with Cold Fusion.

Currently Arden is working on building a front-end set of data cleansing and Analysis/Reporting modules based on data extracted from Remedy (a help Desk/Service Management solution) in need of enhanced reporting features.
